Scott Cawood is a self taught artist from Antietam MD, with a deep background in metal fabrication and blacksmithing. Since becoming a full time artist in the early 90's, his knowledgeable manipulation of his medium has allowed him to explore the dichotomies and discover the graces that can co-exist between material, subject, and form. He utilizes scrap metal and found metal objects in most all of his sculptures in order to support his ideas on transformation.

He advances these ideas through his ability to visualize material in a context other than the one for which it was originally produced and then by using his metal working skills to manipulate that material.  He has taken this concept to extremes in some cases by working scrap and found steel into a nearly unrecognizable transformed state.  Cawood works hard to rejuvenate the scrap and found steel he uses in order to bring a refinement to his sculptures...he explains, "to allow them an unexpected elegance."
